Are gays next?

It seems every few decades American society grants equality to another class of former inferior beings.

In the 30s and 40s, woman began to be accepted as equals in the workplace, ironically due to war, and eventually that spread to other segments of society. In the late 50s and 60s, Blacks were finally acknowledged as citizens and that is still working its way through society. In the 80s Southeast Asians, Chinese and Japanese became familiar and accepted.

Gays started becoming more noticeable in the 70s with the rise in disco. The teens who mingled with gays at clubs and came to accept them are now in their mid-40s. They’re the people writing screenplays and deciding which TV shows we’ll see. Then there was the Fab5.

I think the signs are pointing toward gays being the next segment of society to gain full membership. At some point soon the gay marriage issue will be resolved to everyone’s grudging acceptance. Gays will get to become as depressed and miserable as everyone else. Gays will get drafted. Gays will be outed as corrupt politicians.

You know, equality sucks.

That means it’s a good thing that atheists won’t be gaining equality any time soon.
