Today’s featured search string (searches that led to this site); “did gay men come up with christmas?”

I’m not sure if I’m more tickled by the thought that someone out there really wonders about that or the thought that they hoped to find an answer here.  So as not to disappoint, allow me to attempt an answer.

I have to believe that gay men did indeed create the celebration of Christmas as we now know it.  I mean, just look at how overdone all the decorations are, how garish the colors, how flamboyant a production most Christmas festivities are.  I look at the average overly decorated front room in December, tinsel and socks hung everywhere, everyone in eager anticipation of a visit from a large guy dressed in what appears to be fur trimmed velvet, bright red in color, and I can’t help but imagine Richard Simmons in the starring role.  And you can’t tell me that rum&eggnog was invented by a straight guy.
If gay guys didn’t design Christmas, they must have helped embellish it.  It’s too outrageous, too colorful, way too much fun to have been the product of the church.

Why it is that a gay GUY must have created the Christmas celebration?

First of all, if you don’t know how the celebrating of Christmas began then shame on you. This is common knowledge.

Second, why do gay men receive more credit for “flamboyant” design and decor, especially over women? Are all households design and decor challenged simply because there is not a gay man present? And if so, does that mean that all the houses whose decorations have been “overdone” have been decorated by gay men?

If this is true, why are gay men only “flamboyant” during the holidays? Why stop there? Wait, they don’t; the rest of the world does.

Could it be becuase it is a time for celebration, and with celebrations come overdone decorations and festivitiesby the entire family? No, no, its just gay men having fun.
