They’re so darling…

I have never understood, given society’s attitude toward real-life gay people, how accepting Ma and Pa Kettle can be regarding fictional or so-well-known-and-famous-they-ought-to-be-fictional gay men. Liberace, Hudson, Charles Nelson Reilly, Paul Lynde, Elton, on and on. At a distance, it would seem, many Americans find gay males what? Cute, talented, unavailable? What’s the attraction?

The hypocrisies of this society are so obvious; the majority of religious people claim to deplore sex outside marriage, gambling, drugs and gay people. Yet many Americans enjoy sex and porn, Las Vegas and alcohol, and find gay men…fascinating.

Sex, drugs and gambling are all huge industries, well supported financially by the very folk who pretend to be offended by them.   They want to have an even greater voice in the running of the country than they enjoy now, yet their ministers and bishops can’t keep their current flocks in line.  Why do they think we’d trust them with our entire country?
