Apple’s New CPUs And You

The idea of Apple designing their own microchips a few years ago would have been insane. Yet today, there is mounting speculation that Apple is indeed looking to curb future Pystar hassles, but with their mobile devices. And truth be told, I can see the logic of where Apple is coming from. After all, Apple [...]

Is Apple’s New Mac Pro With Nehalem Processor Cheaper?

Gnomie Luke Scott writes:
Hey Chris,
I have been planning on getting a Mac Pro for a while, and since my last Mac purchase with the first-gen Intel MacBook, I’ve been keeping an eye on MacRumors’ “when to buy” page and other news to make sure that any future Apple purchases don’t happen right before a release.
I [...]

How Microsoft Forced Me to Buy an iPod

Browsing the Apple section on Digg, I came across this interesting entry describing how Microsoft’s lack of competence forced the author to buy an iPod rather than a Zune:
“It’s been over 7 years since I got my first MP3 player. I started with the 6 GB Nomad Jukebox back in 2000. Upgraded to the 40 [...]

Apple TV a Failure?

nbsp;Macworld.com is reporting that the Apple TV has been a complete failure for Apple and we might expect to see that particular product fade into obscurity soon:
“Apple may have had high hopes for its first generation Apple TV, but analyst sales estimates indicate the product is not as successful as once thought. Blaming the iTunes [...]

My MacBook Pro Battery Swelled Up!

Wow, we really need to fix our MacBook Pro battery issue before things really get bad.
We first reported our troubles with our beloved Mac notebook last week and then the new week started with a replacement program from Apple, direct, explaining our problem. Well, we’ve been just a wee-bit busy here at [...]

Stuff 160 GB of Storage Into Your MacBook Pro

If the 120 GB drive that comes with the MacBook Pro option isn’t enough storage for you, then you need to upgrade to MCE’s MobileStor. With 8MB cache, a seek time of 12 ms, rotation rate of 5400 rpm, and a transfer rate (sustained) is 44 MB/s, with bursts up to 100 MB/s, this [...]

Expand That Digital Hub and Put Front Row on Your TV

Steve Jobs has said often that his vision for Apple products is to tie them all into a “digital hub”. Releasing Front Row late last year was one more step closer to that dream. While many speculated a media center-like Mac was next on the list, it never appeared. Sure, the Mac [...]

Apple’s “MACjr”, the Pippin

Forgotten failures, how fun to find them. The other day, I was browsing the web — I don’t even know how I tripped over this — and I stumble upon an Apple gaming console. “What! Apple had a gaming console?” I thought to myself in complete disbelief. “When?” I continued in [...]

Tales from the Mac Lab Unit at Microsoft

I have a close friend that use to work at Microsoft. He told me once about its testing lab and how it was filled floor to ceiling with PCs that were used for testing. I can’t remember the exact number of boxes he said they had, but it was well over a couple [...]

A Week With the MacBook Pro

With less then a month of shipping the first Intel Mac that is a notebook, I by the grace of God got mine only two weeks after Apple started sending them out to Mac-heads everywhere. Sparring you the details on how I got it, I won’t skimp on what I’ve learned in my first [...]

How to Make a 17+ MB Floppy

Call them crazy or brilliant, but either way, a bunch of IT students at Carrol College have successfully created possibly the first 13 floppy drive striped RAID drive.
They first tried using a Windows XP machine, but that old technology must have been just too advanced for Microsoft’s easy operating system to handle so the IT [...]

Video Troubles With The Intel Macs

It seems that there is a little cloud on the bright and shining Mac Intel horizon.
It is reported that there are some troubles with the video card. The problem occurs when playing videos with the frontrow media browser. On some computers you see horizontal lines, ghosting, and some video tearing.
The thing that interests me is [...]

iMac 17″ PowerPC Removed From Apple Store!

As we could expect, the iMac 17″ PowerPC has been removed from the Apple store. I personally think that this move went very fast; I expected that this would happen sometime next month - I mean, are they out of stock already?
It seems that the main source for exhausting this iMac 17″ stock was [...]

Installing RAM In Core Duo iMac Is Simple

So, after picking up one of the new Core Duo iMacs, it became apparent that the amount of RAM that ships with the system is virtually unacceptable for the day to day usage of someone who works heavily with multimedia. Having attempted RAM installation on my last iMac, I knew this one would be a [...]

Apple Drops Prices On The Refurbs!

Apple is dropping prices on the PowerMac G5 and the PowerBooks G4.
So here is a renewed pricelist:

Boost That Intel iMac to 2GHz and Beyond!

Looks like the new iMac’s with its Intel CPUs pop out just fine and readily accept a new and faster CPU. A Japanese magazine, MacFan, went out and tore its new 1.83GHz iMac apart and stuffed in an Intel Core Duo 2GHz T2500 CPU. A kind reader of xlr8yourmac.com translates the details in [...]

Wacom Got it Right With The New Graphire4

I’ve tried pen tablets twice before, both times left me wondering why anyone other then the most hardcore artists use it, but Wacom’s new Graphire4 got it right this time. The Graphire is the low priced product line for Wacom, but I think it’s perfect for most computer users out there. I say computer instead of Mac because it works with both the PC and Mac. Let’s look at some of the reasons I’ve switched over to the Graphire4 permanently.
