The Scobleizer Quit MS So He Could Have a Mac
Robert Scoble, aka Scobleizer, wants a MacBook Pro. By his own admission. Heck he even raised money to buy a reader a MacBook and threw in XP for the Boot Camp. The guys own brother in-law works at Apple. Do see the connections people? He’s been in Silicon Valley for a while now and he’s been bathed in the cutting edge of Apple. Mountain View, former home of his SVC work headquarters, is just next store to Apple’s Cupertino headquarters. What influence!
Scoble has known for a long time just how much better OS X is than Windows. Come on, take a look at the Vista beta and see just how much it looks like OS X. You think Robert didn’t have any input on that? “Can’t we make the folder Windows look like glass?” I’m sure he could be heard asking the Vista UI team one rainy morning at Microsoft’s campus. After using Spotlight and realizing just how powerful it was, I’m sure Scoble was running to the engineering team on that one! Hey, don’t even get me started on the widgets.
Then just a couple of weeks ago, Scoble stops by the Apple Store in San Francisco to do an episode of TWiT with Leo Laporte. What better place to be in just hours before announcing to the world he was leaving Microsoft? Don’t you see it?!
Robert Scoble was just looking for an excuse to work for a place where he could freely walk into an Apple Store, probably Valley Faire’s store in San Jose, and load up on some high quality Macs without having to worry about Steve Ballmer throwing office furnature at him. I’m sure of it!
I’m sure Robert will never admit leaving Redmond for his secret love of Cupertino, but you know, we all here down in SV know the truth. Everything’s out in the open down in the Valley and it’s just too hard to hide it and live a false life. Scoble knew it and now he’s free!

Final Cut Studio Is Awesome
Okay, I know that Final Cut is awesome software. But the following movie blew me away! So sit back and enjoy!
You gotta love Apple for creating programs like this!

Bloopers from Macworld
How you handle bad things in front of a large audience filled with the press determines what kind of ring leader you are at that circus. Steve Jobs is well known for his charisma, but how does he do when Macs lockup, web sites error out, and cameras don’t turn on? Well take a look for yourself and see. It’s quite humorous. :)

My Radio Station
Since I tend to spend a lot of time working in my home office, I have set up what I think may be the most incredible playlist. It is like my own virtual radio station, there whenever I want, and full of everything I want to hear.
It is amazing.
Mine is a shuffled list of anything I can learn from - which includes a number of podcasts as well as some audio books and CDs.
iTube: Simple Internet Video Aggregation
What is Internet video aggregation? It’s the process of gathering and listing videos posted on several specific (such as usenet) locations on the Internet. Eastbay Technologies have released iTube for Mac, (and a Windows version), that does this and more. I can best describe iTube as a “Fun” application.
iTube is a simple to install, simple to use, $24 application that gives you over 1500 channels of live video, TV, and Webcams from around the world. Here is the current list of channels. There are no subscription fees and new channels are added each month. The channels are in either Real, Quicktime, or Windows Media and you can choose to view all three types or just Quicktime feeds, for example. It also shows you the bandwidth of each channel. The channels are sorted by general types of feeds and you can add a channel to your favorites list at anytime. iTube even has a “Search the Internet” function to gives users a tool to access millions of Internet video clips.

Love Is In The Air
Well today is Valentine’s Day and, of course, cupid has been spreading his love to everyone. For me, today marks not only one holiday, but two: It’s my birthday, so I get double the cards and presents! The Seedy Side of Mactown
In general, there are several things that separate a Mac user from a PC user. Most Mac users are loyal to the Apple brand and tend to preach the book of Jobs to anyone willing to listen. I try to downplay my love for all things Apple, but I do tend to find myself on the pulpit, preaching from time to time. I am not ashamed of that, and if you find yourself some time, attempting to save some lost PC user’s soul, just go with the flow and realize you’re part of the Apple congregation.
Another of the traits which tend to separate Mac users from the PC pack is a bit darker, something we tend to deny to ourselves and others. It’s been bred into us ever since our senses first encountered a Cupertino-designed product. It used to be limited to computers, but now the dark and all-consuming desire has spread to iPod owners. I’m talking about the Apple Rumor Mill.
Duke Nukem 3D Comes to the Mac
A Mac OS X-native version of this old favorite! From Macworld:
“Duke Nukem 3D was one of the last broadly popular software-rendered 3D
first person shooters before games that demanded hardware-based 3D graphics
acceleration dominated the scene. It’s a bloody action game featuring a
buff, blond, crew-cutted hero in the title role, a one-man army on a mission
to rebuff the advances of an alien invasion. Duke Nukem 3D is rude and
ribald, filled with scantily clad females and one-liners culled from popular
action movies and cult hits alike.
“On his Web page, Gordon notes that the installer available for download will
use the data files from the ‘Atomic Edition’ CD-ROM released for the PC, or
the MacSoft version. If you don’t have either copy, the installer will give
you the free shareware episode. Long out of print for the Mac, Duke Nukem 3D
is still available for sale from its original developer’s Web site -
3DRealms. More information is available from Gordon’s Web page. Gordon also
explains that the download that’s now available replaces an earlier version
that was prone to crashing and works properly with the French language
release of MacSoft’s disc. Other comments and notes abound, so read
carefully before downloading.”
Is Your iPod Cold?
It was no joke when Apple announced the new iPod Socks in October. Most
people thought they were a joke, but no, they are really a new product to
keep your iPod snuggly warm and toasty this winter. On sale now
for about US$29.00, I wonder if people will buy these. I just see myself
now: wearing matching socks to go along with my iPod Socks. From
MacCentral:
Some may have thought Apple’s iPod Socks, first show at Apple’s
special event in San Jose, Calif. in October, were an elaborate joke. If
so, the joke’s on them, because iPod Socksare now available for pre-order from the Apple Store for US$29. Apple
plans to ship the iPod holders in early December. iPod Socks ship six to
a box, and come in hues including green, purple, grey, blue, orange and
pink. The knit holders fit all iPod models, according to Apple.“Forgive us if we’re stating the obvious, but here’s how it works: Just
slide your iPod into the sock to keep it safe and warm,” said Apple.
“Slide it out to dock or change playlists. It’s as easy as… putting
on a pair of socks. [Full source here]
Doom 3 For The Mac
There is good news for all you gamers that are on the Mac. Aspyr Media
has announced they plan to publish Doom 3 for the Macintosh. The game is
currently in development, and will be released in February 2005, which
will cost around US$49.99.
Doom 3 is the latest installment of id’s legendary bloody first person

newest game utilizes a new 3D graphics engine that provides levels of
detail and lighting effects heretofore unseen on computers. The game,
which features both single-player and multiplayer capabilities, is
already available for the PC; a Macintosh version has been long
anticipated, but this is the first confirmation of who’s publishing it
and when it will be released.System requirements for Doom 3 are unprecedented for a Macintosh game -
Aspyr says the game will require Mac OS X 10.3.6 (not yet available), a
G5/1.5GHz or faster, 384MB RAM (with 512MB recommended), 2.2GB hard disk
