iPhone Trade-Ins Sky Rocket

There should be an image here! With iPhone trade-in volume exploding like this, I cannot help but question whether or not this means that folks are considering other platforms.

The problem is the iPhone is all well and good, but the carrier that Apple insists on is counter-productive to the end user experience. In short, Apple’s stubborn decision to tolerate AT&T’s ongoing nonsense with poor customer service.

I cannot help but wonder if the growth being see with Android, might not be related to iPhone users wanting to move onto Verizon. It makes sense. More and more, Android phones are fast catching up in functionality.

But the article you linked to attributes it to people buying the new iPhone.

I’d agree with you if the timing was a little different, but its happening now when the new iPhone is the talk of the town. I have no doubts that there are more than ever lots of people looking at other phones and jumping ship from Apple but I think its the minority for the moment.

I’m sick of all the mistreatment I’ve gotten from AT&T. First, I paid for MMS for two years (2007-2009), but didn’t actually get it until late 2009.

Second, I’m tired of making excuses for the lousy service coverage I get with AT&T. I’m not talking about 3G … I’m talking about Edge.

Third, I’m sick of paying exorbitant rates for lousy service simply because I wanted an iPhone.

Finally, I had planned on upgrading a few of my family’s five iPhones, but my “local” (35 miles away) AT&T Store refused to accept my Visa debit card (that I’d used to purchase the other five iPhones), my cash, or my check.

One of my iPhones has a contract up next month. I’m thinking Droid Incredible. I’m sure it won’t be as nice as the iPhone 4, but I’m sick of getting bent over the AT&T barrel. I’ll switch back to iPhone when Verizon gets it.

I almost purchased a 3G iPad. I would’ve been royally pissed if I’d gotten screwed over by AT&T’s bait & switch plan baloney (and had my privacy violated). Anyone think this may have been retaliation for an impending Verizon iPhone? I thought I read somewhere that AT&T had the great data plan in return for an extended iPhone exclusivity. I guess not. Also, why did AT&T jack up the early termination fee for the iPhone?

I smell a Verizon iPhone on the horizon. Wish me luck as I go iPhone-less for a spell.

Are people abandoning the iPhone or AT&T? The answer to this question, I believe, will be answered when (and if) Apple releases an iPhone for Verizon.
I own a iPhone 4 and love it but AT&T detracts mightily from my experience. (I chose not to buy an iPad because of the tie to AT&T). I also own an “Incredible” and like it a lot and with Verizon as the carrier I feel I get a “plus”. The ideal situation for me would be iPhone & Verizon. If that happens, I’ll pay the termination fee and move in a flash.

I do say specs are important a lot of the time… but not in the sense that bigger, faster, stronger is always better. I think specs are important in that I want each part of my computer(pc, smartphone, tablet, ect) to be durable and reliable. So many people when they see a BSOD start screaming bloody murder at Windows, yet 99% of Blue Screens nowadays are cause by hardware failures.

Excellent article. It’s difficult to put this notion into words ,hard to quantify the reason user experience is the real test of a gadget’s worth. I hate to sound like a fanboy ( I am one, though) but this is the reason I’ll always choose an iPhone over an Android phone. And though I always keep a Windows computer up-to-date and ready to use, I’ll always have a Mac as my primary computer. It’s all about the experience for me, and you too, whether you know it or not.
