Valve Coming To The Mac

Steam online is coming to the Mac, thanks to Valve. A big win for OS X gamers, while those on Windows likely are rolling their eyes with thoughts on how long this has actually taken. After all, this is waaaay overdue, right? Snide thoughts aside,  this is clearly going to be a big win for gamers wanting to use their Macs.

Does any of this really matter? After all, it is likely that Windows will remain kings of the gaming jungle anyway? I think that anytime we see a distribution option such as Steam is being made available to a platform such as OS X, it’s a total win for all involved.

This said, I do not see many Mac enthusiasts getting terribly excited over this simply because I don’t believe most Mac users are expecting to use the OS X powered machines as gaming rigs. Truth be told, I think the effort is a bit of a waste as the Mac user could have just as easily dual-booted with boot camp instead.

You say that “the mac user could have just as easily dual-booted with boot camp instead.” While that is easier, it is also more expensive if you do not already have a copy of Windows lying around. With a OS X-native Steam client it would be easier and less costly to just go out and buy/download the game you want and install it once the OS X games are released.
