iPods Are A Danger When Used By Careless People
As far as I am concerned, this is right up there with warning labels on hot coffee. Anyone STUPID enough not to realize that inserting small noise making devices into your ears, then turning up the volume too loud is bad for you, is a waste of space.
Ear buds can indeed be used safely, you just need to make sure you are exercising common sense when using them with your iPod. It’s really that simple. Sadly, it apparently takes a governmental agency to do our thinking for us as this article clearly demonstrates.
Now this is not to say that warnings should not exist for kids, who might not know better. But outside of this, adults who are unable to exercise a little restraint with their volume controls and realizing that using ear buds for prolonged use is dangerous, is just asleep at the wheel.

Your fundamental problem is that you have – by earlier programming – been trained to accept a differentiation between kids (dumb) and adults (all-knowing).
It’s OK, you’re still young yet. You’re beginning to show signs of learning such lines of demarcation simply (to quote Yanni) do not exist.
The longer you live, the more you will be faced with the inescapable fact(s) that adults are just kids who cling to their stubborn and foolish ways developed as children.
Depressing as that prospect is, the earlier you learn and adapt to it, the more you can get along with all the morons who occupy space around you.
Sorry, it’s not curable – and reinfection happens each and every generation.
Two final points:
1. Never, … never, use the expression “Common Sense” again. It’s just not common. Practice saying “Good Sense” until it becomes automatic.
2. The G’v'mnt is just another collection of the infected specie discussed above, … only with more power to play with.

Ted, you have things backward. Ask any kid and they will tell you adults are stupid while they are all-knowing. By the time kids hit their 30’s, they realize their parents aren’t the blabbering fools they thought they were, only to discover in another 10 years or so, they do in fact become blabbering fools. That being said, the government had to mandate seat belts, even though it was proven that flying out of a car after a 60 mph impact was indeed more dangerous that being belted in said car. They also had to mandate the removal of lead paint, asbestos, and toxic wastes, proving, in fact, that common, or good, sense can only be mandated by a governing body ran by a bunch of blabbering fools.
