TV Has Application Envy?

There should be an image here!Like most iPhone owners, access to various software applications on the iPhone are a large part of what made mobile platform such a success. Great for Apple, but what about seeing such a thing on the TV sets we use today?

I discovered from this article, that DirecTV and FiOS are both looking into taking much of the same approach with their TV services. Because let’s face it, if there is one thing that TV offers, it’s a captive audience!

Despite being a DirecTV user myself with their latest stuff (DVR/HD, etc) I have not been alerted to any of this stuff coming at all. Instead, all of my notices contain the same old crap that has been used to get people to upgrade their channel lineups. I would love to get access to some cool applications over my TV set, but I am not seeing much evidence of this happening just yet.

More and more I find myself thinking that being I have FiOS already, I might as well go ahead and upgrade to FiOS TV, too. At least then I would have “working” on-demand and could lose some of the headaches that come with owning a dish. No, sorry, cable TV is not an upgrade in any sense of the world. It’s yesterday’s technology done badly.
