Apple’s Kindle Killer

There should be an image here!Should we instead, be referring to this as the Kindle Killer? Clearly, if Apple has their way…along with the fact my wife is quite happy using the Kindle iPhone app over dropping even more money for an overpriced eBook reader, I think Amazon might want to be a bit concerned.

Don’t get me wrong, the Kindle is pretty cool. But what a Apple Tablet could translate into some serious issues for the Kindle. The only real advantage would be access to Amazon’s eBook selection, which is clearly Amazon’s ace in the hole thus far.

But what Apple was able to strike a deal in which Amazon was no longer needed for eBooks? Ah, I see this as having the potential for becoming a real game changer.

What additional features would a better eBook reader have? I mean all the thing does is display text on the screen. Perhaps it will read the books to you in a number of voices?

Competition and market penetration is always good for consumer prices and new features. I’m glad to see it coming from all directions.

The difference here is that the Kindle is an electronic book — it doesn’t look to be a laptop or a netbook. It is designed for readers. And Bezos gave up things that could have been “cool” — a back light, for example, or a color screen — because he wanted it to be readable. That was the goal.

My sense Apple is doing something different.

consider that if it runs the iphone OS, the kindle app is already there, and now you have the availability of the Amazon estore on the tablet.

I can’t wait for it to be released, because I’ll be buying one.

… well, that’s what happens when you eat too much garlic! Next time, bate your breath. JIm

Just can’t resist the linguistic comment – “baited breath”? Is that breath with the earthy scent of worms? ;-) I think you mean the phrase “bated breath”…. sorry!

Enticing thus with baited breath
Nice mice to an untimely death. – Geoffrey Taylor
