JailBreaking At Fifteen

There should be an image here! And to think when I was 15, my worries hardly centered around trying to create the next JailBreak software for an iPhone. Yet as you will learn from this article, some kids are hacking and bypassing Apple’s iPhone restrictions at what some might consider a young age.

Known simply as JailBreaking an iPhone, it is an act that has created a lot of controversy for young people who have contributed to the software. And while they claim no wrong doing, the one in the above linked article is taking no chances and has “lawyered up” early on…just in case.

The one constant I see from people who opt to JailBreak their iPhones is that the desire is there, so long as it can be done safely without potentially bricking their phones into a state beyond an easy reset. Thus far, people have been fortunate as even now, it seems that the current interpretation of DMCA is not enough to stop iPhone users from unleashing the full capabilities of their mobile devices. Besides, it also seems that it is the kids leading the way in this area. Which again makes Apple pursuing the issue a whole lot less attractive.

In the 80’s, the first thing people did when they got a new piece of hardware was to rip it apart to see how it works. Then they would go about devising ways to improve it.

Doesn’t anybody remember the days of having a computer with wires coming out the sides and hack jobs all over it to make it better????

Especially in the 8-bit computer days, the hacks are what propelled the technology. The Commodore 64 and Tandy Color Computer are still having 3rd party hardware developed for them.

Back in the day some of the best programmers were in their teens, 20’s, 30’s, etc… Get it? Same as today.
