Macbooks For Everyone - In School

Seems like only yesterday that schools had Apple II computers standard. Not for each child, rather a few computers to a class, as they were obviously quite pricey. Well it looks like some states are flush enough with funds that it’s going to be Macbooks all around!
Despite the expense of providing this many notebook computers to students and teachers alike, I can only wonder what the task of keeping kids from breaking them must be like.
Think about it, kids today generally speaking do not know the first thing about taking care of what they own. A quick look around any kids room will provide evidence of that. So even while there will be some young people who take this as an opportunity to use the Macbooks and also take care of them, most kids will likely not truly appreciate how very lucky they really are in this instance.

Kudos to Maine for spending tax dollars on something that has a chance to actually benefit it’s citizens.

I imagine that the computers will be checked out like any other equipment (textbooks, band instruments, etc.) is — with the stipulation that if you break it, you pay for it.
However, the article did say that “As part of the deal, Apple plans to provide the state with educational software, professional development, repair and replacement, and technical support. “

I have sent my cart of MacBooks home with students all summer for the past five years. For one… they should not be wasting away in an empty school building all summer. What a waste of a resource. And two… these students have spent extra time working on projects for the upcoming school year. A win/win for sure.
These students have always taken care of the laptops. I haven’t had one damaged in five years.
