App Store Thoughts For Snow Leopard

There should be an image here!OS X for less than $50 - surely this must be a type, right? Not at all, actually this is the strategy Apple is taking to get Microsoft’s attention apparently. And considering that OS X is merely the layer of frosting on the Mac cake, so to speak, I guess in many ways this makes a lot of sense.

The new cost is going to be affecting the upcoming Snow Leopard release of OS X, which is somehow fitting as this release is also going to be very much reduced in size, compared to previous releases. What makes this so interesting is the fact that this is actually the biggest decrease in an OS size from old release to new release that I have ever heard of.

To this end, this translates into Snow Leopard being a real catch on a number of levels. Less hard drive space taken up, faster “everything” from boot time to performance, and of course the fact that the price is set to be something like $29 makes Snow Leopard a worthwhile release.

One Comment

I was really impressed with the WWDC demo of Snow Leopard. For $29, I think it’s definitely worth the coin. Leopard is already pretty snappy as far as performance as it is. The added features will be icing on the cake.
