Mac Sales Falling - But So Are PC Sales

There should be an image here!So while PC manufacturers are seeking to compensate for dropping sales with netbooks, Apple may find itself relying on iPhones and iPods to make up the difference as Apple has made it clear they have zero interest in netbook sales. If this was a healthy economy, I might applaud their desire here. But the facts are in, Apple is not recession proof - some concessions need to be made.

Because of Apple being so against the idea of a netbook in the traditional sense, I would point out that there is nothing wrong with opting to reinvent the idea of a netbook. Perhaps blending together the app ideas of the iPhone with the full keyboard found in a notebook computer?

Whatever it may be, there is really no question that falling sales means Apple might want to put on their thinking caps here. Because while they think netbooks are ‘junk’, sales of said options say something very different.

I think Apple should make a sort of eMate 300 revision to the iPhone/iPod Touch. If you don’t know what the eMate is, its an Apple Newton with a keyboard.

If it was just like the eMate, it would have a touchscreen screen and a full keyboard so that you could type on that too. And the iPhone part of it would be that it could have WiFi, Possibly 3G, the App Store with apps made for iPhone/iPod Touch and an emulator for those, and others for the netbook-like device only with keyboard controls too and such. So they could either use the iPhone OS or they could make it a touchscreen MacBook just miniaturized. I would go with the iPhone OS.

However, I do agree with Apple that netbooks are on the junk side. Slow processors, tiny screens, cramped keyboards, I’d rather have a normal laptop.
