iPhones Needed For Class?

There should be an image here! There is really no question at all that owning an iPhone or other similar smart phone is where all of the kids are headed these days with their wish lists. If only there was some way to get the schools to convince mom and dad that it is a must own device to further their education? As it turns out, the Missouri University School of Journalism is actually putting the iPhone into such a category.

Upon further investigation by the article linked above, it turns out that the mandate for students bringing in iPhones is actually option. As a matter of fact, it is merely being encouraged for students to purchase the iPhone as a supplement to what they might otherwise use a laptop for.

So does this mean that federally subsidized loans are being used to buy iPhones for these students? Sure sounds this way to me. Not to fear though, as stated above, the entire iPhone purchase is merely a suggestion. Or so they say.

I think that having iPhones in class might be too distracting to the students. A good way of putting technology in the school is SmartBoards. They are very cool.

You might be surprised at what federally subsidized loans are being used for.

You’re “supposed” to use it for school – and school related things – but you can get the maximum loan amount, and anything that the school doesn’t take is disbursed to the student – who could go out and buy drugs with it, if they really wanted to.

As far as I know, there is no system to monitor how much of federal loan money goes to the school, and how much goes into the students pockets, and how the money a student pockets is spent.

Man, I wish I could afford an iPhone! And use it during school! haha.

Conner,

“Distracting” pretty much hits the nail on the head, along with “addicting”.

I went to the movies Saturday. prior to the show I couldn’t help but notice the number of people playing around with their “smart phones”. Opening and closing the flip tops, texting, scrolling web pages, etc.

While they are wonderful, useful, high-tech tools, I had to wonder how much of what I saw was actually necessary and how much was just “high-tech-fondling” that served no useful purpose other than feeding a habit.

Personally, I removed mine from my pocket, turned the damned thing off, and enjoyed the show!

connar we have those smart board s at my highschool might be one of the most expensive thing we have but they never get used if they do its only to be used as a projector screen never as the full board I wish theyed be used more often if not they should be sold

University of Missouri, not Missouri University.

a lot of cheaters use iphones in school

i say its a bad idea

our school has banned all phones now, they have to be in locker until end of school

cheaters, they can enter in stuff, emial stuff, text, and take nice photos of stuff for tests and stuff

and its distracting too

you cant really regularte iphones

they just should have computers, which its easier to lock down

or have smartboard, projecters,
or if you cant afford that, have your science teacher make you guys a wiimote whiteboard

What Do You Think?
