Hulu Is Not As Unified As AppleTV

AppleTV, while very cool with the combination of great content and a slick presentation method, is having a hard time competing with FREE. And at the moment, free is well represented by Hulu.com. Despite this seemingly clear advantage in Hulu’s favor, Apple has a significant advantage of their own. More content and the ability to easily view it on TV.
So even though I could go and purchase a little Popcorn Hour box, or something else like it, there is no unified solution to take on the AppleTV at this time. Perhaps this is about to change or rather, become irrelevant.
Enter the rumor about Hulu asking Apple to include an app of their own in the iPhone app store. If Apple opts to allow it, this spells massive bandwidth hits to AT&T. In addition, it is also potentially treading into areas that Apple might want to explore later on. Will Hulu be successful? Lately, I am becoming rather doubtful.

The Apple TV is too crippled by it’s overpriced and old hardware with no upgrade options. It can not play 1080i content that people have recorded from OTA/QAM broadcasts.
The Dell Vostro A90/ Inspiron Mini 9 has superior graphics, can play 1080i content, and is a fully functional netbook for about the same price. The Nvidia Ion computers with even better graphics are starting to hit the market and are supposed to be only $200 for an ultra compact unit like the Mac mini. I expect Apple to slash prices on the current Apple TV to get rid of all those obsolete units and adopt the Ion platform.
