Pre-Sales Right Into Your Palm

Seems like only yesterday the Palm Pilot was the most amazing thing in the world. Then again, the same thing could have been said for the Apple Newton I suppose. Flash forward into today and we see a new generation wow-making mobile devices coming into the market that is sure to change the way we see mobile communications forever.

A full day before the next iPhone release is set to go live, Palm is going to be releasing their Pre model into the wilds of eager early adopters. Clearly, this is not by happenstance, as Palm knows that if the Pre fails, they are screwed even more than the last time a mobile platform cleaned their collective clocks. You might remember that platform, it’s called Windows Mobile.

Today, the Pre is going to be position itself on the center stage and if everything plays out as Palm hopes, it will take some of the wind out of Apple’s sails. This being said, I would point out that the likelihood of the Pre taking away significant sales is HIGHLY unlikely. Why? Because these days, you are either rocking an iPhone or the G1 running Google’s own mobile OS, Android. Most people do not even remember Palm.
