.Mac Goes .Whack!

  • No Related Post

While on the surface, one might not see the migration might not seem like a big deal, the fact of the matter is that .Mac is going away and to some extent so is the end of an era. Some users really do not want to bother making the switch to MobileMe and the custom iWeb stuff. Frankly, I have heard a few people I know personally who think it is a real pain in the butt.

On the other side of the coin however, users will likely find a better overall experience using MobileMe and to some extent, the services that work with iWeb. Yes, it will mean having to change everything over, but at the end of the day - it ought to be worth it.

The only real concern however, is the fact that neither service out there will be able to replace .Mac’s Groups. While some will point out that this is only a temporary setback, others still will strongly disagree. Speaking for myself, as I do not see any need for Groups with anything I do, such a switch would not be such a stretch. Perhaps I am alone on this?

I work for Apple and have been in the MobileMe area and now am doing tech support for iWeb.

iWeb is awesome and MM is an amazing service. IMO there is no pain involved in the switch. As it has been said already, groups are not there but not too many people used them.
