The Killer App…And It’s Not For Windows

Most Windows users don’t embrace a Mac mainly for the reason of application support. What is on Windows most likely won’t be found on the Mac. So they stay in their doom of Windows. I’m one such person but having worked on my MacBook Pro for the last five days exclusively — forcing me to find Mac application replacements — I came across an FTP program that nearly made me fall out of my seat. The best part, it blows away anything I’ve used on Windows (TurboFTP is my app of choice there) and it only runs on a Mac. Yummy! YummyFTP to be percise. Not since LaunchBar (another Mac only killer app) have I been this excited about an application. For any platform.
First off, Yummy just makes its client look good. It’s as if someone on this team came straight from the iLife crew at Apple as YummyFTP fits right in. Second, it’s fast. Very fast. Third, it’s easy to use. It took me a second to figure out that Bookmarks were the ftp sites would be saved since in my Windows world, that term was reserved for remembering actual paths at certain sites, but once I got it, I got it. The bookmarks window is identical in layout as the Finders folder window in its column view. Nice.
YummyFTP does all the basic ftp stuff and more. You get full FTP, SFTP, and FTPS support. It’ll let you configure it backward and forward, you can use AppleScript make the backward and forward intertwine, and it even has support for droplets. Upload automation (such as sensing changes to a directory and automatically uploading those changes without you even doing so much as clicking the cute peanut butter and jelly icon) makes your life even easier and, well, thoughtless.
I could go on all day on what YummyFTP does, but I won’t because YummySoftware has already done it. Go take a look at its complete list of features and give it a try. You get 30 days, though I don’t think I used this for 30 minutes before I purchased it. I can pretty much guarantee you’ll be amazed like I was.
I love this application so much, it may be the one that makes me stay on my Mac all the time. Ya, I still have a few other applications that need Mac variants (eWallet, please come to the Mac soon!) but booting up the PC once in a while for it may be not be that bad of a thing. :)
