MacBook Pro Get Firmware Updates Without Disclosure

Apple has quietly released a firmware update for MacBook Pros (MBP) that fixes, well, who knows what it fixes. Apple ain’t telling. From the download page, all we learn is one line of information. “The SMC Firmware Update addresses boot issues with the MacBook Pro.” Boot up issues?

What we do know is that SMC is short for System Management Control. The SMCs primary function is monitoring thermal activities. This means your very hot MBP may cool down a bit when this firmware update is applied adjusting the fan use and helping reduce heat inside the slim aluminium case. Early reports from MBP users is that the heat problem does seems to be much improved.

As to the other massively complained issue, the “mooing” or whine of the laptop, some say this firmware update fixes it while others say the cows are still noisily grazing.

Either way, it’s a good idea to download this mysterious update that Apple refuses to admit fixes a very hot problem.
