Apple Talks About Security

First we had the new ads where Apple explicitly said that viruses and worms are not an issue when you use OS X.
Today I got pointed to an article where Apple makes some firm statements regarding the security within OS X.
This is remarkable because Apple never talked about security before. This could have something to do with the big fuss that is going around when someone finds a “virus” or “worm” for OS X (most if the time these viruses or worms aren’t a big threat and the security risk is very low). It looks like Apple is going to push security to the front as a good selling point; at least all the signs are pointing in that direction. In my opinion they are going the right way with this. Security is a big issue these days. If you sit on an average birthday, (PC) people talk about one thing: “Did you install that new anti-spyware program?” “What anti-virus software do you use?”
Q: You used to not talk about your updates at all. Now you are, is that part of a bigger change? Or is this the only change we’re going to see?
A: It is probably not true that we’ve never talked about things. I think that talking about these things and communicating is part of our overall approach to security.
