Gettin’ Apple’s Remote to Work with VLC

  • No Related Post

If you’re like me, you’ve been using VLC for most of your video needs on the Mac since it’s free and will transcode so much more than QuickTime Pro will. But the VLC team hasn’t got a hold of a MacIntel yet to integrate the Apple Remote into successfully. (The latest version has a plug-in in the advanced settings, but it doesn’t work.) Watching anything with commercials in it on your Apple Remote enabled Mac can be a drag when it’s hocked up to an external monitor or TV. Well worry no more, Apple Remote Helper is here!

ARH gives you play/pause, next, previous, and volume control all from the little white Apple Remote that came with your iMac, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini. Simply launch ARH and then VLC and you’re off to the couch for some veggin’! By the way, ARH is a free download.

download link is not working

Hey cool. Looks really promising!

Is there another download site as the file isn’t on the link provided?

I don’t see what you mean about the remote control not working.

What about fast-forward and rewind? Next and previous only goes to next and previous in playlist. Would be useful!

I wrote a small util that makes the Apple Remote work with Microsoft Powerpoint, Winamp, VLC, WIndows Media Player, gmail, yahoo beta, firefox.

Check it: http://geekheads.blogspot.com/2007/09/controling-you-apps-in-windows-on.html

i don’t think he said “remote not working”, i think he said “download link not working”

i’d love to see this app - are there any OSS projects offering a library or controller for apple remote??

The download link says that the file is not found.

Where can I download ARH?
