Is Apple’s Dismantled Aperture Team an Invitation to Lightroom?

What does Apple’s recent canning of the bulk of the Aperture team mean for the photo editing software? After a slew of bugs, none like before at Apple for quite some time, and a price break on its latest release, some say that Aperture could be done and never see a 2.0 version. With some engineers simply let go from Apple while others where moved to other departments at the Cupertino-based company, Silicon Valley’s other imaging company, Adobe, must be thrilled. With its pending release of Lightroom, of which a beta for OS X is already available, Aperture’s departure could mean no competition for Adobe. It also spells defeat for Apple.
While this development is as uncertain as what Boot Camp means to the future of OS X, one thing is known for sure, Apple doesn’t like failure. It’s more than probable that a new team is being put together and a complete rewrite is going to be done for 2.0. It’s happened before and can happen again.
Apple’s success of late has led to much speculation of its future. Aperture hasn’t seen complete doom at this point; however, there’s not too much light coming in that little hole right now. We’re sure to see more developer in the near future.
