Apple: Photo Pros, Please Try Apeture v1.1 and We’ll Shave $200 Off the Price

Apple has released a revision to its photography software aimed at professionals with Aperture 1.1. Don’t let the point one version fool you as Apple claims this to be, “a significant update to the revolutionary all-in-one post production tool for photographers.” With newly improved RAW image rendering, a complaint from 1.0 users, a new set of advance adjustments for RAW, and Universal binaries for native support for both PowerPC and Intel Macs, it may indeed be more than just a minor update.

“Since Aperture launched just over four months ago, we’ve been incredibly focused on improving image quality and performance, working closely with pro photographers to get it right in 1.1,” said Rob Schoeben, Apple’s vice president of Applications Marketing. “With the RAW quality and overall speed of Aperture 1.1 and its new low price, there’s never been a better time for pros and hobbyists alike to take the art and craft of photography to the next level.”

While Apple hoped that Aperture would bring more professionals to the Mac platform, many were put off by it’s high price of $499. Couple that with the fact it was buggy and Adobe is about to release its competitive product, Lightroom, Apple had to make some changes, and fast. Only few short months after it’s premiere, 1.1 comes clean with a lower price, better RAW image handling, and less bugs.

Users of 1.0 can get the upgrade for free via Software Update on their Mac as well as receiving a $200 coupon for any item at the Apple Online Store. New users pay $299.

It appears that Apple listened and may be back on track with wooing over more professional photographers to the Mac platform.
