So now that Macworld UK is reporting that Apple Records boss Neil Aspinall is not only stating that the entire Beatles catalog is coming to iTunes but is being remastered to sound “brighter”, one has to ask, what was the law suit about? It seems that Aspinall made some comments during the trial that the most sought after catalog in the music world for online distribution was on it’s way to Apple Computers after some touch up paint was dried. While everyone seemed to think this was really a case against Apple Computers demanding more moola for damages, here we come to learn that Apple’s iTunes may become the winner. Or will it?
It’s very possible that the court case was a pawn against Apple Computers to get the highest return on The Beatles catalog. Apple already makes very little per download but to squeeze even more out of them would be doable with another trial hanging over it. So was this trial just a way to get the fattest paycheck for all at Apple Corps since it was inevitable The Beatles catalog would find its way online anyway?
It’s hard to say but it’s well known that Steve Jobs has wanted the Fab Fours music on his store since day one. Jobs has been sighted with Paul McCartney before and it would not be surprising to learn that Jobs would be willing to throw away all profits just to be able to say that iTunes has The Beatles and no one else. In the end, it could drive more business to iTunes and indeed make money for Apple Computers. Who knows but Steve and Neil but it’ll be nice to see The Beatles on yet another apple.
