Why Apple Has Lied to Apple And Should Pay For It (Again, Again)

  • No Related Post

It’s old news that Apple Computers has had some legal trouble with Apple Corps (the famous record label started by the Beatles in the late ’60s) but once again, it’s news. Tomorrow, Jobs’ company takes on McCartney’s (and et al) company in a London court to try and convince the judge that iTunes really isn’t about music. (CRAP! Who put “tunes” in that name?) No sir, Sir Paul, it’s merely a “data transmission mechanism” and nothing more. Nope, it doesn’t play music from ripped Apple Corps CDs from the likes of the White Album and it certainly won’t play Magical Mystery Tour converted from an old BBC recording to one’s iPod video. Nope, just handles data.

Okay, why does this argument sound like it was cooked up in Redmond, Washington? Give me a break. Caught and caught again in a breach of contract. Apple agreed to never get involved in music and it has. Apple’s big enough to step up to the plate and admit it and to pay Apple Corps its due. Why play this game - yes, I know why… to sustain minimal loss - when you can work something out (excuse the pun). I mean with only Paul and the Black Widow, I mean, Yoko alive, it shouldn’t be too hard to please them both. Paul really doesn’t make hits anymore and Yoko really has no more outlets to sell John’s art to, so I think they’d both jump for some extra cash. Heck, maybe they’d be so pleased they may just give iTMS rights to sell the Apple Corps catalog. Now hey, there’s a new angle!

Look, Apple needs to admit it’s wrong and pay up. Plain and simple. Playing this apple and oranges thing over and over is just going to add up in the end. Why not just end it now?
