Is $10 Too Much for Low-Res Movies?

Apple goofed and released its first movie, High School Musical, for a mere $1.99 and then yanked it quicker than anyone could have watched the entire 1 hour and 39 movie off of the iTunes Music Store. Then it was back…for $9.99. It seems the original price was incorrect.
The question is, is $10 too much for a movie that’s not even in high resolution video? One that has no sub-titles or extra features? I mean come on, you can pick up a lot of non-blockbuster DVD’s for the same price and play them anywhere. No machine limit. At $2, that’s one thing, but five times the cost? Mmm, I don’t think it’s going to fly very well.
While TV shows and videos have done very well at the $2 mark, movies are going to demand a higher cost; however, what’s the sweet spot? Since we’ve already established many DVD’s can be had for a bargain bin price of $10, it’s going to be difficult for Apple to pass of a lack luster features movie that is coupled with the fact that can only be played on a handful of machines. Evil DRM!
So in the end, yes $10 is too much for a movie, especially a Disney movie. Bambi or a classic like that, maybe, but a kiddie show? Naah, I don’t think so. I hope Apple adjusts its pricing or it’s going to be a rocky road for sure.
