Apple to Buy Disney and Fail Like Sony?

Was it all in Steve Jobs plan from the beginning when he allowed Disney to buy Pixar? Did the master of saving ailing companies see an opportunity to nab an under valued Hollywood studio from the clutches of Tinsel-town? Maybe. According to analyst Christopher Whalen, of New York-based managing director of Institutional Risk Analytics, “The markets and Disney shareholders would welcome a merger led by their apparent savior, Steve Jobs.”
It seems that Apple is moving further away from its computing roots, to the Other Steve’s dismay, and running full steam with the multimedia thing. Kind of like what Sony did in the late 80s when it bought Universal studios. Sony felt by owning the content, it would easily be able to push its hardware. While that hasn’t quite worked out (MD anyone — or how ’bout UMD?), Apple seems to think it may have kinder luck as its hardware offerings, the iPod line, betters that of its competitors. And besides, Jobs is different in his understanding of the customer then Sony is. Surely, Apple is better guided in its Digital Hub quest. Right?
Steve Jobs definitely knows what he wants and when he wants it, he usually gets it. He really hasn’t had a big failure since the Apple III and that experience taught him much. Since then, the mistakes have been little and easily forgotten. He has been careful in his movements so much so, that when they all add up, the public is shocked at the announcement. Take the Intel change for an example of that.
Yes, SvenOnTech could see Apple nabbing Disney while it’s at its low. Grabbing ABC, ESPN, and all else that comes with Disney would be a tremendous gain for Apple and most notably for iTunes. Scoring Monday Night Football as a video download will be a full out touchdown for Apple and Steve knows it. If Disney becomes the next chess piece in Apples game, the quest for a larger piece of the operating system pie may not matter anymore when it’ll be Microsoft begging Apple for content for its media player. :)
