Avoid MacBook Pro Due to the Rev. A Doom?

Apple’s MacBook Pro looks too good to be true in many ways and too disappointing in others (no FW800, slower DVD, less resolution, etc.) Since Apple just won’t fess up on battery life, either, some are really starting to wonder if the MacBook Pro is worth the 2k purchase or not. The largest hang up in all of this debate is the “Rev. A” problem.
Apple has taken on an entire new hardware platform and stuffed it into a thin form factor. No real-life testing has been done on it and when the units find themselves out in the wild come next month, what’s going to happen? Will there be a mass of dying MacBook Pro’s because the battery won’t last more then an hour? Rumors of the sleep mode not working has been another issue that may find itself rearing its ugly head soon. What about Intel’s famed hot chips? How will that effect the motherboard? I had two burn out on my PowerBook 800 and those don’t even get that hot.
Coming from the IT field, it was well known that you always waited when a new version of anything came out, especially first releases. “Rev A” was a voodoo word in Silicon Valley and it’s already being applied to the MacBook Pro.
If you do jump and buy the first release of the MacBook Pro, I’d heavily suggest getting the Apple Care protection plan. Getting it covered for three years is a good thing and if problems do arise, you’ll be covered. For $350, it’s a wise investment after shelling out about two thousand or more for one of those spankin’ new Intel Mac’s.
