Loads Of Updates

  • No Related Post

After the Apple keynote last night, there were a couple of updates available for your Mac!

I installed the updates immediately. This was the first time that I did not wait a couple of days before installing them. What I normally do is I look at multiple forums and check if released updates cause problems. After a couple of days, I make the choice whether I update or not. This time, I thought, let’s go for it without all my usual procedures! At this point, no problems (fingers crossed)!

What is updated?

Apple released 10.4.4, which has the following improvements:

  • SMB/CIFS and NFS network file services

  • Bluetooth wireless access
  • Core Graphics, Core Audio, Core Image, RAW camera support, including updated ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers
  • Spotlight indexing and searching
  • AppleScript, iChat, DVD Player, and Safari applications
  • Dashboard widgets: Calendar and Stocks
  • Software Update and Sync Services
  • Compatibility with USB and FireWire devices and third party applications
  • Previous standalone security updates

    QuickTime 7.04

According to Apple, this update solves a lot of problems and has improved H.264 performance (which is a very good thing)! As always, there is a warning for users with older versions of QuickTime Pro. If you update to QuickTime Pro 7, you have to buy a new license.

    iTunes 6.02

Minor update, which initially irritated me. The only thing I found “improved” is that when you play your own music from your library, you have this huge iTunes Music store bar underneath your library. They call this the “mini-store.” But Apple thought about the fact that users would find this “feature” annoying and added a very nice hide button!

And, finally, there is an iPod update.

    iPod Updater 2006-01-10 delivers:

    • iPod Software 1.1 for iPod

    • iPod Software 1.1 for iPod nano
    • iPod Software 1.2.1 for iPod with color display
    • iPod Software 1.4.1 for iPod mini
    • iPod Software 3.1.1 for iPod with Click Wheel

Features of iPod Software 1.1 for iPod, and iPod Software 1.1 for iPod nano:

    • Support for the iPod Radio Remote

    • Bug fixes
    • Changes to iPod Software 1.2.1 for iPod with color display, iPod Software 1.4.1 for iPod mini, and iPod Software 3.1.1 for iPod with Click Wheel
    • Bug fixes

So, that would sum it up. It’s update time, people!
