When I opened up Illustrator CS2 for the first time, the normal fear of a blank canvas hit me. This time though it was a little less overwhelming. I recognized the layout of Illustrator, it looked like the layout of Photoshop. You see I’ve used Photoshop for several years, but I never took the time to learn Illustrator. Vector graphics were never my strong point, I used raster based graphic programs for my website work, and vector graphics were like voodoo to me.
Now I’m not saying that Adobe Illustrator CS2 will allow those of us that are vector virgins to magically absorb all the knowledge Adobe has given the world with Illustrator, but I sure felt more comfortable with it’s Photoshop-like layout and toolbars. I was also impressed with the live demonstrations of all the new features in Illustrator. I was able to watch the short and simple walk-throughs and actually repeat them myself. Adobe has done everything they can to make Illustrator much more user friendly then ever before. The next aspect of Illustrator that I liked was the smooth integration it had with Adobe Bridge and Version Cue. I was able to work with the same image in Illustrator and Photoshop and see the changes that I made in one, displayed in the other. I just felt more at ease with Illustrator then I ever had. I actually want to visit Lynda.com and take an online class on Illustrator CS2.
