Roxio took a look at the millions and millions of iPods sold and all the accessories that have been developed for the iPods. They concluded that there were over 500 kinds of hardware devices built to work with the iPod, but very few software programs. Roxio wanted to allow users to experience their older music collections, and rediscover their new music. They also wanted to allow users to go beyond music and use their iPods for more, extend the usefulness of their ipod. These goals were something that no one application could ever accomplish by itself, so Roxio got together with several other companies and created a suite of programs that accomplished this lofty goal. They call the package The Boom Box.
