iPod ‘will never match Walkman’

Macworld UK has an article in which they mention that Sony sold 50 million Walkmans by the 10-year anniversary date, and that the iPod’s 3 million in the first two years, while impressive, will never match that.

I would counter with this…

You cant generalize the “Walkman” as a single product line, its a brand name; which has had, and still has MANY different style hardware that has sported the brand “Walkman.” Sony has cassette, CD, radio, MD, MP3, etc under the brand “Walkman,” that’s not an exactly fair comparison to the iPod (brand if you will), which is a HD based MP3 player.

Now if Apple had a number of different versions of MP3 players, a handful of different version CD players, a few versions of a MD player, etc and branded them under “iPod” then you could probably see close, if not the same or more to Sony’s reported results…

Come on what a stupid comparison.
