Microsoft - Yahoo!

I’m wanting to know what other people out there think. Should Microsoft withdraw its offer to purchase Yahoo! for $44 billion, raise its bid as requested, or just walk away? CNET says that the majority of companies who make unsolicited offers and don’t receive a response, usually end up walking away. A proxy battle is actually quite the rare thing to see in this situation. But this is Microsoft we’re talking about here. And Balmer said that if Yahoo! didn’t deal with them by the deadline that he set, which ended last weekend, that they would go public and get into a proxy battle.
Any thoughts on what steps should be taken next? Any predictions on what will happen? Or tell me what you would actually like to see happen with this.
While I wish that they would just walk away, I really don’t think that that’s the right course of action for Microsoft to take. That leaves Balmer as a guy who just issues idle threats, gets his bluff called, and then folds.
I really don’t want to see a merger between the two companies as I’m sure that Microsoft only wants to buy Yahoo! so that they can have more control over the Web than they already have.
Do you really want Microsoft to have control over flickr? Because I don’t.
