InstantAction is here!

The GarageGames/IAC web hit has finally arrived in its beta form! InstantAction is a website using a specially developed web app to play games in real time on instantaction.com. All it requires is an account, Windows(For now… Its only in beta but I know Mac support will arrive soon), IE, or Firefox. Right now, if you want to play you will need a beta account. I have been keeping tabs on this since its news debut, and I signed up as soon as public sign ups were avail. When the beta started, I was one of the first to get a beta invite through the e-email I signed up on… And started inviting my friends like crazy!

Just for people who don’t know, InstantAction was a multi-million dollar project started to bring games into the web and make it easier for mobility and for everyone to play. This allows you to sign on with an account that has access, and start playing already commercial, soon to be exclusives, and brand new games made or published by GarageGames right there in your web browser. The playable games right now are Marble Blast Ultra, Screwjumpers, and Think Tanks. Think Tanks was made by owners of the Torque Game Engine (Created by GarageGames) and produced by GarageGames. Marble Blast Ultra was created by GarageGames for the Xbox Live Marketplace, and the web browser version has the same, if not better, performance as on the Xbox 360. Screwjumpers is a fun little game, and as far as I know its exclusive to IA.

*Before I forget, all of the IA games include REAL TIME multiplayer online. Woooooot :D*

My look on the games:

They are really fun. Performance is great. The whole concept of playing the games in a browser is great… Hell, I love it all. Legions is going to be an IA exclusive, and it is essentially the new version of the hit Tribes games. It has a release date of when its done, but I don’t expect the wait to be too long. Marble Blast Ultra has been on the XBLA, and has already been created by GG before as Marble Blast Gold, and so on. This game NEVER gets old, and now it is even easier to play. How fun it is to sit on the computer, and just open the web and start messing around, training your brain by trying to get the shortest possible time on these interactive puzzle esq maps? Well, you need to play… And you will definately be answering me with, “ITS EPIC!!” Screwjumpers I don’t really understand, or care to at the moment, so if you want to learn about it. Go play it. (You will find out how soon.)

The performance is top of the line. I admit, I am playing on a $2500 gaming rig, but these are fun games, made to look good, and be fun. Not games that strive to have graphics no computer can run, with a shit of a story line.  I get no sort of lag spikes at all when I am playing, and there have been very little noticeable bugs. There are some errors at the moment in MBU from what I have seen with the GUI (Graphical User Interface), but nothing hindering your playing experience… and its still only a beta!

My opinion on if its worth your time? Well, it would be yes. Honestly… Playing the games costs no money, and to unlock some things will require IA points which will be obtainable through the site. (Just from sending friend invites I have made 1000 points.) Everything is dynamic, and it really makes web gaming cutting edge. I usually find myself switching to my Windows partition just to play these games. Its worth your time if you are on Windows, and still worth your time if you are on Mac but have a way to get to Windows.

So, after all this time you have probably been anxious to play. Hell, you might have made an account already, but it didn’t work? You don’t have beta access! If you want beta access, leave a comment here or mail me at  blackvector at gmail.com, and if I feel you deserve an invite then I will send you one asap. See you ingame!

Hey Blackvector,

Someone pointed the IA website out to me. I was doing some research on it and came across your space. Seems like it could be a pretty significant evolution of the gaming scene. I’ve been waiting for a Tribes like game for ages. For the record, I’ve done BattleZone, BZ2, Tribes, Tribes II, BF1942 and Planetside. If you still have any openings for the beta, I’d like a chance to play it.

Have a good one, see you in game somewhere, somewhen..
