Hurricane Katrina Email Hoax Invokes Red Cross

A Hurricane Katrina email hoax, believed to the first, but almost certainly not the last, Hurricane Katrina email hoax, was sighted yesterday.

“Hello, For those who don’t know me real name it is Brenda or (loily) for some of you,” is how the email hoax, which John “Highway” Wu, over at Highwayman.org received.

It appears to be a typical chain letter style hoax, without any request to send money. In fact, it says that for every email sent containing the message (i.e. for every time you forward the message), the American Red Cross is going to donate fifty cents to the original author’s humanitarian efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina (which the hoax mistakenly calls “Storm Katrina”).
