This article brings up some great selling points for those that think that Wi-Fi is just not for them. After addressing security concerns, they move right onto the actual dollars and cents of the situation.
Speaking for myself, I would have to say that having access to Wi-Fi is just about critical to me personally. Chances are, I am not the only one either.
If you are responsible for the design, implementation, or operation of a data center or corporate network– this is for you. If you want the most secure and reliable network then you need to have wireless access points (so called Wi-Fi) in your network. So you’ve heard or read all about wireless and decided that you don’t want wireless in your network. Well keep reading, because if you DO NOT have and DO NOT want wireless in your network because it isn’t secure than you are about to find out WHY you MUST have it.
Security and Radio Waves First let’s establish some facts. Wireless may or may not be secure or as secure as wireline (baseband) network technologies like Ethernet. Even if it were equally secure – it is easier to physically access a wireless network. Radio frequency is hard to control or limit – so wireless networks are accessible (for example) outside of buildings, even when they are intended only to operate within more confined areas. So our first fact is that it isn’t easy to control radio waves.
