The Internet connection I have here in Bangalore is slow by broadband standards, just 256 Kbps. This means long download times. Plus there is a very unreliable power supply. You never know when it will interrupt the download. So download managers are very much in need.

During the old dial up days I used the GetRight download manager. But these days almost every tool has an open source counterpart. So I googled and found Free Download Manager. It has all the features I used in GetRight and has a few more. Plus you can not beat the price. :-)

Since I am also trying out Ubuntu these days I looked for a Linux download manager. Downloader for X seems to be the popular choice But installing software on Ubuntu is a lot easier.
