Tweak Your Touchpad

The problem a number of people have with the Touchpads on their laptops is oversensitivity — on occasion, an errant bump with the corner of a palm can cause an inadvertent click that results in inconvenience at best and data destruction at worst. Personally, I also find it irritating when I’m attempting to drag the cursor across the screen and a link somewhere along the path gets clicked by mistake.

This wasn’t such a big deal on Windows as there’s normally software included to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the pad. In my experience on the Linux side, it’s a little harder to come by.

Fortunately, if you’ve got a Synaptics Touchpad (many laptops use the Synaptics devices), then you can download QSynaptics. Based on the X11 synaptics driver and built on Qt, the software is designed to allow Linux users the same control over their touchpads.

Version 0.1.2 has just been released, and the developers hope to one day get the project included with KDE.
