Weird Rashes And ActiveSync On Windows XP

Sorry, that title may be a little misleading. At no time did Windows (or any other OS) give me a weird rash. Actually, I have used my computer to make an appointment with my doctor to help me figure out if this odd skin inflammation is related to my recent biking jaunt through the woods. After the initial visit, it appears that it might very well have, thus causing me to put away my “nasty-gram” that I had pre-typed to the makers of my laundry detergent.
Anyway, there I was explaining to the doctor about the immense discomfort I was experiencing thanks to this strange rash that developed on my hands and elbows. For the most part, the appointment was pretty standard. He asked a few more questions and we finally came to the point in our appointment when meds were to be prescribed. As I stood up to get ready to go, he asked me if I had any issues syncing my Cingular 8125 up with Windows XP via ActiveSync. I explained that I am currently using another OS, but did remember bluetooth syncing to be fairly involved. He went on to explain that he has never had an issue with most of his other devices and that he felt that he was fairly literate when it came to this type of thing. I then disclosed that I used to be in PC repair and would be happy to make a few recommendations to him.
Long story short, I have a repair call coming up to help him figure out why his 8125 will not sync no matter what he tries. Right off the bat, I am fairly sure it will prove to be an easy fix. However it looks like it is going to be one of those “confused XP driver” kind of days. I may simply point him to a bluetooth dongle so he can sync with matching COM ports in mind. Often times, this proves to be a cleaner solution.
So this brings me to the question of the day? Have you ever been to the doctor only to come out of it answering tech questions? Hit the comments section above, let’s hear about it.

I’ve had that happen with two of my doctors. One of them uses various models of mac’s throughout his practice and wanted to know if he could run XP Pro on a swish new server he had his eye on and have the macs co-operate. The other wanted to know whether he would be better off using XP Home, XP Pro, or Vista Business across the various machines in his possesion. Of course neither of those questions had straight foward answers. Other questions though have proved much simpler to answer. E.g. Between ‘x’ monitor and ‘y’ monitor, which is better and why?
