I am sorry, but I refuse to think of Dell outside of a value vendor sense. They do not strike me as a performance vendor. Never have and likely, never will.

Editor’s Note: In part one of this article, (Is Dell’s XPS M1710 The Fastest Graphics Notebook Ever? Part I) Barry Gerber talked about the features, ergonomics and standalone 3DMark05 performance of the Dell XPS M1710 notebook. Overall he liked what he saw of the M1710 in the short time he had access to it. In this the second and final part, Gerber looks at the notebook’s components and cooling systems, temperature management capabilities, display performance, battery life and performance on battery. And, Tom’s Hardware/MobilityGuru graphics expert, Darren Polkowski, compares the M1710’s Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics processor to a number of others.
Overall we found the XPS M1710 to be an impressive computer, especially on the graphics end. Our experience with the Dell had an interesting affect on us, sort of like eating a fine chocolate mousse. As soon as we finished with the M1710 we began to wonder if there were even finer notebook desserts out there. We began our search immediately and will tell you about our findings in the future….
