Vista vs. OS X

Tons of people compare these two operating systems, but I have yet to read an article that truly tells someone which is better. And… this article won’t be any different. If you’re looking for an article to tell you which to buy, keep looking. What this article will do is try to attempt to tell you which is right for you. I love them both, and think both have a place in the OS world. And Linux… well… unless you’re an Open Source whore, don’t bother.

Vista is a great OS from (IMHO) a great company. As I said in a previous article, I don’t give a crap if it copied OS X. If Vista did it better, that’s all I care about. As for Widgets vs. Gadgets, I feel they are both about the same. The only strength Widgets have is that they have more apps than gadgets has at the moment, but I have no doubt that Gadgets will catch up. As for searching… can you really blame Microsoft for copying OS X’s Spotlight? Spotlight is simply amazing search technology. I really don’t think there is much room for improvement in that area. Therefore, unless Microsoft was willing to ship a lesser product, it really had no choice but to copy. All in all, Vista is a great OS for the businessman, the gamer (hands down), and in some ways, the general home user. If you have grown up with Windows, I see no real reason to change. One of the main reasons you may not want to use Vista is if you have older hardware. If you do, you might not have drivers for it readily available on Vista. As for Mac., it will likely Just Work [/advertisement whoring].

Mac OS X is a great OS. There’s really not much to be said about it that hasn’t been said above. If you are a creative professional, OS X could be the perfect computer for you. Macs even have a place in the business world. if you are looking for that killer gaming rig, though… keep moving.
