Top Five Hoodies for Geeks

Holiday season is upon us, and that means trying to find the right gift to give that geek in your life. Sure, they may appear to have all the latest and greatest gadgets, but there’s one gift you can give a geek that they will always appreciate: a hoodie.

Hoodies and geeks go together like peanut butter and jelly. While, sure, some of us may not look our best around the clock, it’s always a good idea to have a hoodie handy. Over the years, hoodies have evolved from simple rain and winter wear to year-round fashion accessories that allow you the freedom to both stay comfortable and express yourself.

After all, a hoodie isn’t just an article of clothing. It’s an impenetrable suit of armor that guards you against the elements, offering complete protection from your waist all the way up to the top of your head. Like any article of clothing, your hoodie can say a lot about you, and what you represent. Rolling in to your local comic store sporting a GAP hoodie isn’t quite as cool as walking in with one that doubles as a Spider-Man costume. Yeah, you know it.

So, whether you’re slumming it like a multi-billionaire Web entrepreneur, or simply trying to stay comfortable in your home office, nothing fits the bill quite like a good hoodie. After all, if you’re slinging code 24/7, you might as well be comfortable.

Here are my top five hoodies for geeks.

Ultimate Hoodie Microfleece

SCOTTEVEST
When you think geeks, you’re probably thinking gadgets. We geeks love gadgets, and sometimes civilian clothing just doesn’t cut it. SCOTTEVEST products are renowned among geeks for having the pockets (and technology) to support virtually anything and everything you could possibly need to take with you as you face the world.

The Ultimate Hoodie Microfleece is an 11-pocket system that comes in an extremely comfortable and normal-looking hoodie. Inside, pockets are lined with more pockets, a patented Personal Area Network (PAN) is set to run wires from various pockets to specially-designed loops near your ears for headphones, and a weight management system is in place to make sure your gear doesn’t weigh you down or make things feel uneven.

When you put on a SCOTTEVEST Ultimate Hoodie, you probably won’t need to worry about carrying any bags with you. Everything you need and/or want to get you through the day is most likely accommodated by this hoodie in one way or another. You can even control and see your phone through a specially-designed pocket.

All SCOTTEVEST products are made with quality in mind. The microfleece material used in the Ultimate Hoodie is extremely soft and comfortable in virtually any setting. I wrote this article with one on, and I couldn’t be happier. The Ultimate Hoodie is built for travel, is surprisingly lightweight, and looks good on someone of practically any shape and size.

Star Wars Fett For Real Hoodie

Marc Ecko
What geek doesn’t love Star Wars? Sure, we may argue over whether or not to include the prequel episodes in that definition, but the general appreciation for the story, technology, and fantasy is certainly there. What better way to express that appreciation than by wearing your very own Boba Fett hoodie?

While you might not be able to take out Jedi with your nonexistent blaster, you can at least look the part. The hood itself looks just like Boba Fett’s helmet, minus the voice modifier, head protection, and other trivial matters. In fact, this hoodie will do little to protect you from blaster fire, lightsaber strikes, or any other dangers of space. It will, however, keep you warm and comfortable both at home and as you explore an alien world. Still, you can zip the hood right up and look like the Fett, himself.

Captain America Hoodie

ThinkGeek
If there’s one type of literature that’s appreciated by geeks both young and old, it’s comic books. Reading a comic is one thing, but what if you could don the uniform that made Captain America a legend in homes around the world? With this Captain America hoodie, you can.

The hood itself isn’t like normal hoods. It actually falls over your face, giving you an authentic Captain America mask to protect your secret identity. Mild-mannered IT administrators can protect the world from evil without having to worry about their coworkers ever knowing their true crime-fighting potential. Just try not to implicate yourself by hanging that torrent downloader on floor three by their shoelaces above their desk. That might arouse suspicion.

Minecraft University Hoodie

ThinkGeek
Gaming isn’t just about passing time and racking up ladder positions; it can be educational. With the Minecraft University Hoodie, you can express to the world that you received advanced architectural training from the most prestigious learning institution in the 8-bit world.

The front of the hoodie has the Minecraft University logo adorned by the words, “Ad Gloriam et Porcos” or “For pigs and glory!”

The back has a larger crest depicting a coat-of-arms style shield containing several of the essential tools of survival in the Minecraft world. Above this shield, the face of a creeper looms.

What really sets this hoodie apart from other Minecraft apparel is the attention to detail put into something as simple as the zipper. A tiny 8-bit pickaxe acts as the zipper pull.

World of Warcraft Horde Premium Hoodie

Jinx
You might be wondering, “Hey, why isn’t Alliance being mentioned in this article?” There you go; the Alliance is mentioned.

The World of Warcraft Horde Premium Hoodie from Jinx is stylish, classy, and ready for anything you can throw at it. Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes will know full-well the power you wield as you walk through the Internet cafe with this prestigious symbol of Horde dominance.

What really makes this hoodie stand apart from some of the others in this list is that it looks very sleek, and you wouldn’t immediately associate it with World of Warcraft, unless you’re a player. This makes it a great way to find other players without advertising your geeky hobby to the world, outright.

You’ve got to look somewhere outside the confines of the basement. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to find a geeky beauty at the electronics store, comic shop, coffee shop, etc.

Half the battle is building the courage to (WITH CONFIDENCE) walk up and say hello. The first date with my wife was at a pool hall, and all I needed to say was, “So, when are you going to let me take you out to shoot some pool?” Simple as that.

Two games in, we were wagering the location of our next (classier) date.

You also see pants. I don’t think people are going to stop wearing pants as a result.
