How Do I Clean My Bathtub?

I enjoy taking a bath instead of a shower. Hey, it is good enough for Dagwood Bumstead, it’s good enough for me. But keeping it clean can be a chore. Here is an easy way to keep your spic and span clean.
Scrub-a-dub-dub, there’s soap scum in your tub — now how do you get it clean? With brushes and gloves you’ll clean out that tub and give it a sparkling sheen.
- Apply a heavy-duty bathtub or all-purpose cleaner to a tub coated in enamel, the most durable of bathtub materials. Allow it to sit for five minutes, then scrub with a scrub brush using gentle pressure. Rinse well.
- Scrub away the remaining soap scum with a scrub brush or an old toothbrush. When scrubbing, pay special attention to the corners of the tub and the area around the drain, where soap scum and dirt tend to build up. Also, look for evidence of a bathtub ring — the ring of dirt and stains that forms around the edges of the tub — which will require extra time and scrubbing.
- Rinse again.
- Apply a nonabrasive bathroom or bathtub cleaner if the tub is acrylic, which can scratch easily. Gently scrub with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse the tub well.
- Apply a specialized fiberglass cleaner or a nonabrasive bathtub cleaner to a fiberglass tub. Scrub gently with a sponge. Rinse well.

Bet few people realize that mixed in with that “soap” scum and dirt is dead skin you just scrubbed off your body.

How about if you’re using a oval galvanized steel tub?
Something like this:

My wife, guru of all home gadgets, purchased this *thing* that hangs from the shower nozzle.
You fill it with undoubtedly proprietary liquid (what - no open source cleaners?) and hit the button. It beeps for a bit then starts dispensing the liquid (note: close shower curtain or you’ll get very clean too).
She loves it and claims it really keeps things clean. I am happy because she’s happy (smart husband that I am).
[sigh] If Windows were only this easy to clean……

One of the best ways to keep your bathtub clean is to not use bar soap.
The fats in it are sticky and adhere to your tub, along with dirt and skin, etc.
Since we switched to liquid soap, I only have to scrub the tub about once a month or less.
