Did you know that replacing your car’s air filter can improve gas mileage and improve performance? You can even upgrade to a high flowing performance air filter, such as K&N, with a million mile limited warranty.
Follow these steps to clean your air filter and get back on the road in no time.
- Safely remove the air sensor from your car’s air intake.
- Next, remove the air filter.
- After that, spray the filter cleaner on both sides of the air filter.
- Allow the cleaning fluid to saturate into the air filter for 10 minutes.
- Gently wash the air filter with cool water. If the filter is especially dirty, repeat steps 3 and 4 until the filter is clean.
- Allow the filter to completely dry.
- Once the filter is dry, spray the filter oil on the front side of the air filter and allow it to soak for 20 minutes. Be sure to completely cover the filter with the oil so that it forms a seal.
- Once the oil has set into the filter, then replace the filter into your car’s air intake. Don’t forget to reconnect the air sensor.
Do not use blow dryers or heaters to dry the air filter because it may cause damage. This cleaning procedure is only for reusable after-market performance filters. The stock air filter in your car is not meant to be cleaned and re-used.

The disclaimer …
“This cleaning procedure is only for reusable after-market performance filters. The stock air filter in your car is not meant to be cleaned and re-used.”
… should run at the top of the article, rather than the bottom.

Important to note that users of AEM’s DRYFLOW performance air filters should NEVER use filter oil on the media. It does not require filter oil to trap dirt. It should also be noted that for almost any air filter cleaning, you should rinse it from the inside out.

For a regular filter replacement instead of the performance type that is listed her. I got my instructions here http://www.2carpros.com/how_to/change_air_filter.htm it is pretty simple and strait forward. Hope this helps.

I have a reusable air filter on a motorcycle I just bought and I have no clue who makes it. From how it looks I do not believe it is a dry flow but I am not sure if the cleaning kits for the K&N will work or if I need to find something special, any insight would be appreciated.
