Child Pornography And The Law

  • No Related Post

It would seem that there is universal agreement that child pornography is evil. On the main page of FlyingHamster on January 15, 2007, there was a posting about the case of sixteen year old Matthew Brady:

“It sounds like a rite of passage - a high school boy looking at sexually explicit Web sites. So why did a teen face 90 years in jail? Did a stranger hack into his computer and upload evidence of a serious crime?”

It seems to me that the people who prosecute cases like this should be aware of what hackers and what malware can do to a computer. I asked some very talented people in the security community to demonstrate to me how long it would take to load up pornography - without the computer owner’s knowledge - onto a machine. I was shown repeatedly that it was easy and it could be done in minutes. Perhaps, the prosecution, in some cases, have before them people who woefully are guilty of being unaware of computer security - and not guilty of child pornography. In this case, Matthew was a child himself.

Further, here are some links that follow Alex Eckelberry’s (and Sunbelt Software’s) efforts on behalf of Julie Amero:

Hi, Chris and all good Gnomies. I’m the crisis management consultant and geek who took Matt Bandy’s story to 20/20 and helped them confirm how he was victimized, while getting them ready to “go public” with their website, http://www.justice4matt.com. They’re still offline but will be back online soon — with a Mac this time — but even then don’t really know how to get around on blogs, so I’m doing the trekking for them to thank everyone who’s passed the word on. We think ABC and 20/20 did a GREAT job on air and online, but if you want the whole story, with evidence, go to our site.

I have found pornographic pictures on my computer from some unknown source. Now I scan with Picasa or *.jpg every now and then to make sure
others haven’t turned up.

[...] The comments in that article are well worth reading. I never imagined, when I started this blog space, that I would be writing so much about porn. [...]

Well as a parent of a 15 yo and a 10 yo, yould be amazed at some of the stuff i hit just by doing a search with.jpg!!! Fortunatley so far, no child porn, as i do a full mcafee scan and spybot search, saying that however…one HAS to wonder….is that enough???

I am so shocked about how much child porn that is on the net! I have two boys and I am working as a private investigator and security officer. I am also an artist on the side and when i was married we tried to have another child for 3 years hoping to have a girl. It didn`t happen. We got divorced and since then i wished still to have a daughter. I began serching the internet when i came across magazine-fashion.com i wanted referance for painting. I was shocked even though it was no nude. It was still shocking! Later i became a security officer to pay the bills thinking of making a career out law enforcement. I have experienced a lot of news about child porn and child abductions! I now employed at a investigative company i have done alot of research on my own time and have uncovered quite alot of web sites containing child porn. I am sickend and sadend about what has happened to these young girls and My goal is to do more research in trying to stop this once and for all. The web should be a safe place.

I think it is great how people are trying different ways to stop child porn. But more needs to be done by more people including the government.

What Do You Think?
