Nokia Corp. today unveiled a short-range wireless connection technology that it said is more energy-efficient than current Bluetooth technology and can be used in devices such as watches.
The new radio technology, dubbed Wibree, can work alongside Bluetooth short-range wireless connections, but it uses just a fraction of the power, according to the cell phone market leader.
Why might this gain in popularity over Bluetooth? Reduced size and power requirements, that’s why. Imagine your watch showing you who’s calling so you don’t have to dig your phone out of your pocket. Imagine that watch being no larger than a standard wristwatch. What uses can you think of? Hit the forums and share your ideas.
