Dell Laptop Catches Fire At Yahoo!

Michael Santo of RealTechNews writes:

Looks like Yahoo! hasn’t been watching the news… or reading its own news.yahoo.com site. It shoulda known about the Dell recall on batteries. A Dell laptop burst into flames at the Yahoo! Mission College Campus in Santa Clara.

A Yahoo! spokesperson confirmed to Red Herring that a Dell notebook burst into flames at the company’s Mission College campus in Santa Clara, California. “We have had no previous problems [like this] that I know of,” Yahoo! spokesperson Heidi Burgett said. She could not confirm whether the computer was company-issued or an employee’s personal item.

The flaming laptop was yet another blow for Dell, with numerous blogs and Web sites reporting that hundreds of Yahoo! employees were evacuated for 45 minutes. Representatives from Dell did not immediately respond to requests for comment. [Source: Red Herring]

We Say: The nice thing for Yahoo! was that a number of employees used Flickr, which Yahoo! owns, to host pictures of the laptop after it was placed outside for anyone to photograph.

About RealTechNews
When blogs became “hot,” we looked at the category and found a gap. Tech blogs were furiously covering gadgets and gizmos and new products from Asia, and the mainstream tech sites were diligently doing product reviews and news items, but no one was really sitting in the middle and bringing the best of both worlds to one place. Enter RealTechNews (RTN). Our mission is simple: We aim to bridge the gap between the informal and mostly amateur-run tech blogs and the polished but often slow and advertiser-supported tech portals.
