The “S” In TSA Stands For… ?

  • No Related Post

Michael Santo of RealTechNews writes:

The TSA today said the personal data of 1,195 former employees may have been exposed as one of their contractors mailed the data to the wrong addresses. Admittedly, not the same as sending it to say, a spammer in Nigeria, but still.

Accenture, a contractor that handles TSA personnel, sent 1,195 documents to the wrong former employees during a recent mailing, according to a letter signed by Richard Whitford, TSA assistant administrator for human capital. [Source: USA Today]

We Say: Accenture isn’t exactly a small company, so you wouldn’t expect this of it. Don’t get me wrong; this isn’t that big a deal, as it’s not the same as losing a laptop, but it still shows just how easy it is for data to be exposed. Oh, and you people in Homeland Security (which the TSA is part of), “S” is supposed to stand for Security.

About RealTechNews
When blogs became “hot,” we looked at the category and found a gap. Tech blogs were furiously covering gadgets and gizmos and new products from Asia, and the mainstream tech sites were diligently doing product reviews and news items, but no one was really sitting in the middle and bringing the best of both worlds to one place. Enter RealTechNews (RTN). Our mission is simple: We aim to bridge the gap between the informal and mostly amateur-run tech blogs and the polished but often slow and advertiser-supported tech portals.
