The Toaster Museum Foundation

Several weeks ago we visited a site that showed how some people felt about their lawn mowers, to the point of taking pictures and sharing them digitally over the Internet. I wondered what other common ordinary everyday items could achieve just as much, if not more, popularity that the tried and true lawn mower. Today’s site is part of the results of that search.

The site is called The Toaster Museum Foundation. As its name implies, it is about the common taken-for-granted appliance that seems to be in just about every household. They come in all shapes and sizes, and have evolved technologically over the years (although I have yet to see a Windows-based one, I am sure the geeks in Redmond have one in the works). Here you can explore to your heart’s content to find the one that is perfect for you. Sort of a treasure hunt for the Holy Grail of Westinghouse.

There are quite a few interesting areas at this site. Vintage ads showing older toasters, art work, articles, and a special interactive page, with a game and greeting card. I especially like the toys and accessories, and the miscellany section, where I was reminded of one of my children’s favorite video series, the Brave Little Toaster. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 6.5 rating, since everyone needs a toaster, but it appears that some people need them more than others.
